The Lassies and Maidens in the Funeral Noble Speeches and Sermons (Seventeenth Century)

Summary/Abstract: The study presents a comparative analysis of encomia included in noblemen’s orations and sermons delivered in the seventeenth century at the funerals of girls and maidens. The juxtaposition of texts belonging to two different genres places the issue of role models in a new light because the way of rhetorical amplification of the same laudatory topoi, which depends on the type of speech, turns out to have a fundamental influence on the model that emerges from the speech.
