Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to show the potential of José Saramago’s novel, in line with the idea of “literary text in action” and its performative power. For this purpose, three perspectives were used, called in the article – circles of initiation: literary-cultural; media studies, communication; and sociology. For each of them, keywords and a frame or leading issues have been identified. The research perspective proposed in the article shows that going beyond traditional literary or linguistic analyses focused on the text allows to update its potential in various activities, including adaptation and humanistic and social education.
