Summary/Abstract: Identity in general, and through folk dance in particular, is a necessity in the 21st century, being only a given, an unchanging quality associated with a thing or a person, prescribed once and for good. Cultural values, those that synthesize an era and a way of understanding the world, acquire, through their ideational and expressive force, a character of permanence, becoming landmarks for the consciousness of a society. They are always reinterpreted, from new perspectives, being thus brought into the living circuit of culture. Traditions, customs, rituals and ceremonies are behavioral norms, i.e. unwritten rules of the organization. They allow the manifestation of consensus, of the need for group membership and security. They are the bearers of symbols, through whose decoding certain messages are communicated. One of the messages transmitted by the ancestors through the traditional holidays dedicated to the deity of nature is Drăgaica (Sânziene) on the day of the summer solstice, on June 24. Over time, June 24 was significant in many ways, primarily due to the great celebration that takes place on this date, namely the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, and also due to the fact that from the popular point of view Sânzienele or Sânzenii is celebrated.
