Summary/Abstract: Geographically trapt between the German-Russian bracket and the smaller countries of Eastern Europe, Poland struggled to find the proper path of a middle power. Without resources to fully accomplish her dreams of grandeur, Poland tried to garner the support of the neighbours so as so resist the double pressure stemming from both Berlin and Kremlin and coagulate the region into a meaningful actor. Drawing analogies from chess game, this article argues the existance of a pattern which brings together Polish and Romanian history: when the former embraced a misfortune, the latter soon followed, within the span of a few years. Therefore, Romanian decisionmakers should try to help Warsaw put together a robust Intermarium initiative and thus gain international visibility
