Summary/Abstract: The global system has been witnessing the emergence of new powers and an increase in geopolitical competition in parallel with the slight decline of the influence of the United States. China has become an economic and then a political and military power with its economic opening policy that started in the 1980s. The focus of this article is to reveal the aim of Beijing’s Maritime Silk Road Initiative, also known as the String of Pearls Strategy, launched to secure energy and trade security, which is one of the pillars ensuring its power. This initiative targets to provide alternate routes to bottlenecks in the Indian Ocean, bypassing states such as the United States and India which are competitors of China.
