Summary/Abstract: The methodology chapters in scientific texts constitute the part that contains detailed explanations about the stages of the study based on the communicative aims of the author and tries to convince the text recipient about the validity of the findings. In this respect, it is important to clearly state the communicative purposes in the method sections, to reveal the relationship between communicative purposes and textual arrangement, and to understand academic discourse. For the organization of semantic relations, the constitution of coherent texts contributes to the textual connectedness. In this study, it is aimed to examine the methodology chapters of the postgraduate theses in the field of Turkish education in terms of coherence relations. The database consisting of 32 PhD dissertations and 119 master's theses was evaluated within the framework of the cause-effect component of the coherence criteria formed by Kehler (2002). In the current study, the question of how the methodology chapters of the postgraduate theses in the sample were presented in terms of the cause-effect component of coherence relations, whether there was a difference in cause-effect distribution between master's theses and PhD dissertations and how rhetorical moves and steps were presented in terms of coherence relations were examined. Also, which cause-effect components are encountered in rhetorical movements and and steps was examined. It is concluded that causal relationships are built on the result component in the methodology chapters of the postgraduate theses and coherence is ensured through linguistic elements.
