Summary/Abstract: The patrimonial construction is meant to be a resource for underpinning and affirming a unity of a territory and for defining the “nation-memory” of a people. Therefore, we consider patrimony closely linked to the building of each nation’s collective identity. But what does it happen when one of its different items is seen as part of more than one national identity? What are the driving forces behind its mobility, even temporarily, from one state to another? Is there a strategy that places a mobile cultural object with a multifaceted identity, such as the sword of Steven the Great [Ștefan cel Mare], on the field of international relations as a transnational medium, able to trigger debates on the political relations between the two countries that claim the same cultural object as part of their national identities?
