Summary/Abstract: One of the crucial conditions that must be met by Romanian citizens who go to work in European Union states is for them speak, at least for communication purposes, the language of their temporary foster society. On the background of personal conjunctures and of collective temporary tensions that burst in the countries where these migrants settle, their instinctive choice becomes apparent, aiming to facilitate their own and their children’s integration into the society which offers „everything”: linguistic affiliation, which starts with the progressive abandonment of their mother tongue, including in their family environment. The process of adopting a new language, and, potentially, of a new way of thinking, is also sealed by the migrants’ children being baptized with names chosen, accordingly, from Italian, French or Spanish onomastics.
