Summary/Abstract: The child’s transition from the family and/or preschool to school is defined by the child’s previous experience, but also by the support given to the child by all the environments which stand by the child at this important time marked by changes and challenges. The paper therefore starts from the position that the effectiveness of the process of transitioning to school requires establishing a partnership between the various microsystems – the family, the preschool, the school – which can facilitate the child’s adjustment to his/her new environment. The paper also takes a look at the process of transition itself and the changes occurring as part of the process, as well as at theoretical concepts which, by taking into account the ecological perspective, recognize the importance of creating partnerships and establishing continuity between developmental environments. In addition, it points out the factors that enable/prevent the development of a good relationship between the developmental environments during this transition, and puts forward certain recommendations which can lead to a successful transition to school based on other countries’ positive experiences. The conclusion offered is that a successful transition to school can be facilitated through the implementation of programs based on partnership in which all the parties involved know their roles and responsibilities in order to work on common goals.
