NOTES ON WORDS BORROWED FROM ARABIC IN TUVINIAN LANGUAGE

Summary/Abstract: In the vocabulary of every language, words borrowed from other languages result from various interactions between linguistic communities. Intra-linguistic or extra-linguistic relations between such communities lead to a connection between the borrowing and the lending language. Indeed, relations between these two languages are sometimes directly established, and sometimes by an intermediary language between the borrowing and the lending language. In this regard, this study will explore Arabic words in Tuvinian language, a Siberian Group Turkish dialect. The research object of the study will consist of a detailed analysis of Arabic words in Tuvinian language borrowed directly or by means of an intermediary language. These words are scanned through in the following works: ESTY-I, ESTY-II, ESTY-III, ESTY-IV, TSTY-I, TSTY-II, TuvRS and TW. The study benefits from a descriptive qualitative method since Arabic words in Tuvinian language will be analyzed and interpreted as the research object. As a result of the review, 12 Arabic words were found in Tuvinian language. Conclusively, it was found that the way these words entered Tuvinian language were as follows: (I) Arabic >> Mongolian (Mongolian languages) >> Tuvinian language; (II) Arabic >> Russian >> Tuvinian language; (III) Arabic >> Turkish dialects (?) >> Tuvinian language; (IV) Arabic>> ? >> Tuvinian language.
