Summary/Abstract: In Polish literature, poetry is a literary gender that has been assiduously cultivated for almost two centuries and highly appreciated by the readers. During harsh historical times, literature (and at times, eg. during the Romantic Period – poetry itself) undertook the role of forming the consciousness of the people, as well as represented the most handy means of educating the youth. A certain kind of historical canvas is for various reasons Tadeusz Różewicz‘s poetry, a writer who has been actively writing since the end of the II World War until the present day. The essay discusses the poetical work of Tadeusz Różewicz throughout his entire career, since his first volume (Nelinişte), published in 1944, until his last – Kup kota w worku (2008), highly and unanimously acclaimed both by the critics, and the readers. It points out the main ideas, themes and motives that glimpse from Tadeusz Różewicz‘s lirical oeuvre.
