Summary/Abstract: Is possible the ideal of objectivity, as it is defined in science, in a democratic society? Or the subjectivity is the epistemic dimension of all public speeches? I try to give an answer to these questions starting from some theoretical differences: not all speeches have an argumentative structure and not all judgments have the truth as their aim. Therefore, we need something else in order to assure a common basis for an agreement in a social or political debate. Values have this role.
