Summary/Abstract: This text focuseds on the hitherto unknown issue – Orthodox community of the town of Brzeziny, the capital of poviat under the same name from 1867 to 1914. It analyzes what social groups constituted Orthodox community putting particular stress on the government officials on poviat level as they and their policy had the most powerful influence on the lives of people of Brzeziny. The article also deals with the Orthodox church in Brzeziny.
