Summary/Abstract: In this paper we propose an analysis of the psychological aspects associated with the sudden transition from traditional education to online education, which occurred as a result of the social isolation generated by quarantine in the current Covid‑19 pandemic period. In the first part of the text, the particularities of virtual learning environments were discussed in relation to traditional education, in order to highlight the specifics and requirements of online learning. In the next section, the theoretical and empirical aspects of the social presence model are addressed, emphasizing the need to increase the naturalness of media systems for quality education. The last part of the text is dedicated to the presentation of the results of several empirical studies conducted in the almost two years that have elapsed since the beginning of the pandemic, with emphasis on the psychological elements regarding the online social presence
