Summary/Abstract: This article was written on the basis of a comparative diagnostic poll carried out in Poland and Belarus. It attempts to determine the contemporary influence, significance, reception and popularity of rock music in these two neighbouring countries which share their history, tradition and Slavic roots, but are now divided by significant political and social differences. The collected research material made it possible to answer a number of questions, including whether this music is losing its popularity or whether it is still appreciated by listeners, how much rock music influences people in these two countries, how important it is for them, to what an extent it retained its protest, rebellious and social character, which genres of rock music are usually listened to, how often and in what circumstances. The research captured cultural differences between the examined countries and pointed to ongoing transformations in music culture and participation in such culture.
