Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to justify the need to introduce acoustic ecology contentinto general music education. Acoustic ecology, a term coined by Canadian composer, educator and researcher Raymond Murray Schafer (1933-2021), is an interdisciplinaryfield studying the relationship between humans and their sound environment. Itis not limited to musical phenomena, but treats the soundscape holistically, payingattention to its impact on human well-being. In Schafer’s concept, educational activitiesplay an important role. This concept is in line with the assumptions of modernaesthetic and artistic education, which is characterized by a holistic approach andbroadening the concept of “culture” towards a broad anthropological understanding. The contents of acoustic ecology can not only arouse aesthetic sensitivity with particularemphasis on the specificity of contemporary art, but also develop self-consciousness,ecological awareness, respect for diversity and foster the implementation of theobjectives of intercultural education.
