Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to investigate the educational potential of contemporary music and ways of using it, especially in the scope of stimulating children’s creative activity. The author presents the condition of Polish contemporary music for children and opportunities to experience this music by children outside the school system. Six interviews with composers and pedagogues were carried out and the offer of such events in Poland was analyzed. The author notices the significant educational potential of contemporary music and its increasingly diverse and comprehensive use. Stimulating creativity is one of the most important aspects of this education; it inspires both, the creativity of children who are encouraged to improvise and perform music, as well as professional composers, who find inspiration to work on new pieces. Children are naturally open to new various sonic experiences. In taking part in such events, they become aware participants of culture and learn valuable ways of spending their free time. Their creative activity is stimulated, artistic and non-artistic sensitivity is developed as well as courage and divergent thinking. One of the most important rules of presenting contemporary music to children is interaction, which helps to gain the goals mentioned above.
