Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to bring into question the elements of the Serbian anthroponomical system in the Danube Gorge, meaning the anthropnyms present in Serbs in this multi-ethnic geographical area. This topic was touched on the surface by some scholars who have studied the Danube Gorge, but we consider that it is a permanent factor, as the anthroponyms are linguistic units that preserve the traces of the past showing sometimes stages of language evolution (such as surnames) but, at the same time, suffering easiest foreign influences constituting itself into a true picture of the territory, reflecting various extra-linguistic aspects (ethnic structure of the population, the degree of culture, fashion and globalization influences etc.). This analysis of the Serbian anthroponyms in the Danube Gorge was performed based on a reduced inventory of first names collected from the baptismal and deceased records of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the village Macesti (srb. Мачевић) listed in the bibliography, in order to record some basic aspects regarding the Serbian anthroponomical system in the Danube Gorge. The object of the study is the first names present in the church baptismal records analyzing the origin of these anthroponyms. Another aspect desired to be analyzed represents the degree of presence of anthroponym - toponym relation.
