Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the origin of the name of the Gorani people from Kosovo, their oldness and mode by which it is defined by cohabiting peoples. It is believed that Gorani were originally Slavic people and subsequently Islamized and have been living in the Prizren region and they are now considered successively Serbians by the Serbian state, Macedonians by the Macedonian state and Bulgarians by the Bulgarian state. They were barely being mentioned both in historical sources and censuses during the former Yugoslavia becoming more visible after the Kosovo conflict became a hot topic on the international agenda. Nowadays, Gorani have a political party, representatives in the Kosovo Parliament and schools. Due to the Serbian linguistic kinship, they have a curriculum similar to the Serbian one and due to their religion Bosnian clerics are giving them religious education.
