Summary/Abstract: Professionalization of foster families through supervision can be considered as a form of support aimed at stimulating the development of specific competencies. A key task of the supervisor is to stimulate the professional reflection of the foster parents by making sense of personal experiences, the choice of parental behavior, time for decision making. Part of the professionalization is to expand the possibility for the foster parent to be able to support the child to build symbolic supports for normal mental functioning.
