Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the comparison of the modificatory word-formation categories concept of derivative nouns (including their lexical material) in “M. Dokulil’s” Tvoření slov v češtině, 1, 2 (Word formation in Czech, 1–2) and in “F. Štícha’s” academic grammars, especially in Velká akademická gramatika spisovné češtiny (The Great Academic Grammar of Standard Czech). Each of these concepts brings a distinct theory methodological approach to the noun suffix derivation systematics of modificatory type in Modern Czech, and positives for a deeper knowledge of the word-formation system. At the same time, both the concepts show some weaker points in the description of the word-formation system, therefore in the classification of the relevant lexemes into them.
