Summary/Abstract: The study deals with the process of non-word univerbation of proper nouns, particularly ellipsistype univerbation of an obviously “parole” character, which is considered as marginal in most descriptions of Modern Czech grammar and word-formation. The formation of univerbized propernames is usually motivated by the current needs of the concrete language communication and is simultaneously conditioned on the participants’ mutual knowledge of different types of contexts. Theuse of univerbized single-word place names requires, respectively, knowledge of the local, regional, and micro-regional context; the use of univerbized one-word personal names requires knowledgeof the social context; the use of institutional names requires knowledge of the social, cultural andpolitical context of the language communication in question.
