Summary/Abstract: Tuberculosis is a communicable infectious disease in majority caused by bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Lungs are the most often targeted body tissue where infection can spread. Although lung tuberculosis is well curable by combinations of antituberculotic drugs, more serious drug-resistant forms occur. WHO Global Tuberculosis Report provides information about almost half million of new resistant cases and rising multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) together with serious extensively drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB). Resistant species increase cost of hospitalization and prolong length of stay in hospital. Combination of pharmacological and surgical (non-pharmacological) treatment strategy brings successful tuberculosis cure to certain group of patients. Adequate preoperative optimalization and interdisciplinary approach are essential points of effectual surgical care in combination with pharmacological treatment.
