Summary/Abstract: XDR-TB (extensive resistant tuberculosis) is a dangerous and deadly form of tuberculosis. The rise of XDR-TB has begun in 2005 as a consequence of ongoing evolution of MDR-TB from the mid 1990s to the present. Despite the worldwide decline in new TB cases, the number of annual MDR-TB cases has been relatively stable over the past 20 years, without a tendency to decline, and is around 550,000 cases per a year. Ever since tuberculosis has become pharmacoligically treatable, there had been no new antituberculosis for the next 50 years until 2012. Despite the development of new drugs such as delamanide and bedaquillin, the treatment of patients with XDR-TB is a major challenge even for the most advanced countries in the world. The publication contains a collection of four patients with XDR-TB who have been treated in NÚTPCH and HCH Vysne Hagy since 2015. Thanks to multidisciplinary cooperation, including ERS counsil council, each patient was treated individually with surgical treatment (akože podstupil operaciu?? Ak hej, tak to moze byt ze „ , underwent surgery“), unregistered pharmacological drugs and new products such as begaquilin. The results are so far considered satisfactory, but the prognosis of the patients depends on several factors, including the patients themselves.
