Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the relationship between mass media and social networks. In these days, social networks strongly influence the way we communicate, not only in our private world but also within the mass media. The study outlines three possible aspects of the relationship: social networks as a platform for professional journalism; social networks as a source of information for journalists; and social networks as a rival for mass media. Within the third aspect, the study focuses on the news and on cultural publicism. With the help of previous research and pedagogical practice, the study also brings along seven main tendencies in current mass media communication, which are results of social networks. These are the changes in the context of author; genres; comprehensibility; emotionality; quality of texts in the context of promptness of online communication and marketingization.
