Genitive Constructions With Prepositions Ponad (Above) and Pomeđu (Betwixt)

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a syntaxic-semantic analysis of genitive constructions with compound prepositions ponad (above) and pomeđu (betwixt). The analysis showed that both of these prepositions usually have spatial meaning, but can have other types of meanings, too: first the causal, and second the temporal and the sociative. Neither of these prepositions are much used, but while the first is encountered in the writings of authors from all regions of our common language, the second one is characteristic only of the Montenegrin linguistic environment. This should be noted in grammars and lexical literature, but so far that has not always been the case.
