Summary/Abstract: In the contribution we analyze relevant political parties, their coalitions and other groupings in Slovakia through their voters. The analyzed period was set out by parliamentary elections in 1992 on the one side and by premature parliamentary elections in 1994 on the other side. We argue three main theses concerning the crystallizing cleavages of Slovak society. 1. The basic electoral profiling of political parties is located along the ethnical frontier which leads between the Slovak and Magyar ethnicum in Slovakia. 2. Political power due to elections in 1994 was shifted to parties rooted especially in the rural and less educated environment. An oncoming profiling between the grouping of the government coalition and the grouping of non-Magyar parties of parliamentary opposition takes place along the urban-rural line. 3. The power was shifted towards parties with the crystallizing electorate that is authoritarian and State-paternalist.
