Development of social work in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the current article is to make a historical overview of social work in Bulgaria. Tracking the development of the profession allows it to be considered more clearly in its contemporary professional and scientific discourse. In this way, "a clearer vision of the present, not the past" emerges [1]. The article examines three main periods in the development of the profession – 1) poverty and charity, 2) professionalization and 3) modern social work.
