Summary/Abstract: The Faculty of Law Library in Belgrade has been developing together with the Faculty and the legal thinking in Yugoslavia. It was organized in order to widen and stimulate the general education and to help in developing scientific and professional activities in this fiels, and at the same time to meet cultural needs of law school students. On the eve of the April 1941 war the Faculty of Law Library had an impressive number of books - about 40.000 volumes. The Library was rather well organized, providing an easy access to all interested, fulfilling thus its mission of serving all those to become protagonists of development of legal thinking. In the period of enemy occupation (1941 - 1944) the Library was closed. Professor Jovan Lovčević intervened to prevent destruction of collections of books by the enemy soldiers, so that generations of students and faculty members owe him a highest gratitude.
