Summary/Abstract: The novel In Search of Lost Time starts by narrating, in a rich and touching way, one of the simplest human habits; the narrator recounts how, at times, his sleep was interrupted, and what sensations he had during these brief moments of awakening. We aim at analyzing the presence of the optical devices among which the most important one is the kaleidoscope, at the beginning of Proust’s work, which, as an optical instrument, becomes the central point where the essential elements of the novel: time, space and characters are generated from.
