Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the developments within the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in 2021. It opens with the brief analysis of internal and external context of the development of CSDP at the beginning of 2021, with the special attention given to changes in the transatlantic relations due to Joe Biden election. Then the main problem of the issues within the CSDP framework for 2021 are discussed, starting with the evolution of strategic debate within the EU on shaping the so called Strategic Compass and setting the direction for further development of European cooperation in defense and security matters. Developments within PESCO and functioning of European Defense Fund are also analyzed. In addition, paper examines the changes in operational posture of the EU, especially in its missions in Africa and analyzing also the inauguration of European Peace Facility. In conclusions perspectives for further development of the CSDP are presented.
