Summary/Abstract: The change of leadership in the United States in 2021 brought about a significant reevaluation of the goals, directions and forms of Washington’s involvement in the processes taking place in the Middle East. The prospect of resuming dialogue with Iran offered hope that the escalation of hostility between Tehran, on the one hand, and the US and its allies, on the other, would be stopped. The return to the emphasis on such values as democracy, human rights and multilateralism in foreign policy gave hope for a more balanced approach to regional contradictions and conflicts. There was therefore a chance for a reevaluation in the foreign policy of the Middle East countries, which could also be favoured by the elections in Israel and Iran. Conflicts, which in the past decade led to the dysfunction of several countries, have lost their pace, although the zero-sum approach of local actors to these conflicts did not inspire optimism for possible peace agreements. All these factors, which could change the geopolitical shape of the region, revealed their potential, but their impact did not allow for the formation of a critical mass that would reduce the scale of challenges and threats to peace and security in the Middle East.
