Summary/Abstract: Ecomusicology originated in the 1970s in North America. It combines various fields that deal with the study of music, culture, and nature – especially musicology, ethnomusicology, literature, acoustics, and social sciences. The paper discusses the concept, issues, and subject of ecomusicology in order to arouse the interest of the general musicological public in the Western Balkans in this discipline. In addition, the integration of ecomusicology into the teaching process is considered, i.e. the means and methods used in teaching in order to raise awareness of environmental protection among students. Accordingly, current achievements in this area are presented, with special emphasis on the works of the American musicologists Daniel J. Shevock and Aaron S. Allen.
