Summary/Abstract: This article aims to show the dehumanization of the individual and the dismantlement of values as depicted in Lukas Barfuss’ play, entitled Oil. These processes are inextricably linked with an unbridled lust for money that ultimately leads to tragedy. Starting with a reference to ancient energy and moving through the (post)colonial relations and the knowledge-power dyad, as theorised by Michel Foucault, a possible interpretation of Barfuss’ work is presented.
