Summary/Abstract: This article concerns the education of successors and is based on the results of the author’s research, which attempted to determine to what extent and scope mentoring practices contribute to the acquisition of knowledge by potential and actual successors in a family business. Particular attention was paid to possibilities and limitations of using mentoring practices during intergenerational knowledge transfer in a family business. In the theoretical part the article is based on the results of the review of scientific literature. In the empirical part secondary analysis of data was used. Presented fragmentary research results covered potential and actual successors of family businesses in Poland. The results of the research indicate that mentoring practices undertaken by the nestor allow for the realization of successive stages in the professional development of the next generation, as well as its preparation for the continuation of family traditions and customs in the future.
