Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBIECTIVE: The article was intended to explain the justification for using the term Ignatian pedagogy and its place among educational sciences. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: In the context of the research goals outlined, the problem is hidden in the question if it is possible to talk about Ignatian (Jesuit) pedagogy, and if so, under what conditions it happens. While solving it, the method of analysis of sources was used, which provide the basis for creating a new pedagogical theory. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Ignatian pedagogy arises from a specific tradition developed and nurtured by the Jesuits. Showing its characteristic features fits with the educational activity of the order that was taken as a foundation for description of the theory of Ignatian pedagogy. RESEARCH RESULTS: Ignatian pedagogy belongs to one of the trends set in the pedagogy of religion regarded as a sub-discipline of the educational sciences. The justification for such an approach results from the common assumptions of the pedagogy of religion and Ignatian pedagogy. Its specificity can be found in the assumptions of the spirituality and pedagogy promoted by the Jesuits. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: The conducted argument confirms the justification for the use of the term “Ignatian pedagogy.” It should be comprised in the scope of pedagogical trends that refer to religious reality.
