Summary/Abstract: Introduction: Craniocerebral injuries cause serious health complications and the deaths of patients around the world. Glycemic disturbances in patients suffering head trauma are among the most frequent secondary complications. According to current medical knowledge, glycemic disturbances may have an impact on the patient’s survival prognosis. The procedures related to optimizing blood glucose level, as well as the guidelines for treating glycemic disorders in patients after craniocerebral trauma are the subjects of numerous studies. Material and methods: This study was retrospective. It included a group of 92 patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit due to craniocerebral injuries between January 2012 and September 2018. Results: A relationship between hyperglycemia and twenty-four-hour fluctuations in the blood sugar level of patients with craniocerebral trauma and the risk of death has been proven. Patients with episodes of hyperglycemia greater than 11 mmol/dL and patients with higher twenty-four-hour fluctuations in blood sugar level had a higher risk of death. Conclusions: The study showed a correlation between blood glucose fluctuations and an increase in mortality. Additionally, episodes of hyperglycemia were associated with higher mortality.
