Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to approach the concept of fashion show as an element of the spectacular category of theatrical performance based on formal, but especially conceptual similarities. The point of convergence of the two spectacular forms – the fashion show and the theatrical show / performance – is found in the aesthetic category of theatricality, a probative element for the (non)legitimacy of this theoretical premise from which we started our analysis. The whole theoretical framework is based on the identification of the semiotic categories from the two planes (the theatrical discourse and that of the fashion shows), on finding the points of convergence between them. Beyond a few forays into the recent history of this cultural phenomenon, most of our analysis attempts to penetrate and decipher the tools of theatricality applied to the fascinating universe of Alexander McQueen’s shows.
