Summary/Abstract: This paper emphasizes the role that the literary didascalias had on the creation of the dramatic modern character concept at the beginning of modern theatre. Luigi Pirandello initiates the transgration from enuntiative list of characters from the beginning of the play to the internal didascalias of the dramatic text that have not only an cathalitic function of the theatrical performance, but also a literary value of psychological and portrayal analysis of the character. Adopting a literary language inside didascalias, Luigi Pirandello’s theatre overcomes the performance constrains and offers independent textual pattern for his plays.
