Summary/Abstract: A subject of study is the protocol as the genre of the office style. On the basis of a specific text set a reconstruction of a genre model was performed. A manuscript preserved in the Ossoliński National Institute: protocol books of the Society of Polish Library in Romania (1878-1882) served as the material for study. The document certifies the existence of the protocol genre convention in the second half of XIX century and enables to single out 3 variants: the protocols of the general meetings, the protocols of the ordinary/extraordinary board meetings and the protocols of the commission supervising finance. The structure of the documents covers from 4 to 10 elements, their order is constant and their number depends mostly from the variant. The basic structure of protocol is composed of 4 constitutive elements: headline, participants, course of events and signatures. The remaining elements (information about the opening of a debate, initial formula, choice of a chairman and secretaries, agenda, final formula, date and place) are facultative elements, which create alternative structures.
