The Pattern of Right and Left is worn-out

Summary/Abstract: The French historian Thierry Wolton, in his recently published book "Comment guérir du complexe de gauche" (How to convalesce from the Leftist Complex?) considers this complex as rather a spiritual phenomenon than one being connected to a political party. He interprets it as a habitus resulting from the civic revolution and some specific appearances of Jacobinism. This totalitarian traces lead to the bolshevist coup and prevails as an authoritarian acting by the state. Today the author discovers similar habits in his country of origin, yet not only with leftists but on the rigth side of the spectre as well. In this interview he sketches - in a somehow contradictionary way - some of the discrepancies of the French society. ------------------------------------------- Im »Linkskomplex« sieht der französische Historiker Thierry Wolton weniger ein Parteien- denn ein geistiges Phänomen, eine Haltung, die er auf die bürgerliche Revolution und die spezifische Ausformung des Jakobinismus zurückführt. Diese totalitäre Spur führt zum bolschewistischen Putsch, formt sich somit als autoritäres Staatshandeln aus. Heute findet er diese Haltung am ehesten in seinem Ursprungsland Frankreich, durchaus nicht nur bei Linken, ebenso und vor allem auch bei den Rechten. Im Gespräch skizziert er – widerspruchsvoll – einige Widersprüche der französischen Gesellschaft.
