Summary/Abstract: The First Romanian Theatre Plays in Sibiu Actors Mihail Pascaly and Matei Millo were the first dramatic artists to present professional theatrical performances in Romanian in Sibiu (Romania), starting with 1868. These first theatrical events in Romanian language which took place in Sibiu are important in understanding the key moments that were the basis of the cultural evolution of the city. Bringing the Romanian language on a theater stage for the first time, these tours stimulated the local artists’ desire to develop their own theatrical movement, to promote the Romanian language and literature, to increase the number of original plays and to have well trained actors who could engage in cultural propaganda through theater among the simple, less educated people.
