Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses uncontroversial pragmatic principles like the cooperative principle and the principle of politeness as well as controversial ones like the principle of relevance, the perlocutionary cooperative principle, the principle of local interpretation and the principle of analogy. Arguments are provided for and against the proliferation of the principles. Considerations are presented for the redundancy of three principles: the perlocutionary cooperative principle, the principle of local interpretation and the principle of analogy.
