Summary/Abstract: In this article, written in commemoration of the Polish linguist, W. Cimochowski, in the twentieth anniversary of his death, the following two issues have been dealt with: 1. The creation of a plural nominal stem, to which the plural case endings are added. This innovation in Albanian dates back to several centuries before its written attestation. Such a phenomenon has independently appeared in Rumanian and in German, too. Cp. Alb.: njeri-u-t ~ njerëz-ve-t, Rum. omu-lui ~ oameni-lor, Germ. dem. Mann ~ den. Männ-er-n etc. 2. The second innovation concerns the use of the definite nominal case forms instead of their opposite indefinite ones in the Albanian nothern dialect in general. Cp. prej Shkodre-t, atij burr-i-t, at burr-i-n, atyne burra-ve-t etc. Such a phenomenon, however, is encountered sometimes also in the Albanian southern dialect, and in certain cases in Macedonian and in Modern Greek, too. Cimochowski has dealt with these innovations of the Albanian nominal system in his excellent monograph (1951) on the north-western subdialect of Dushmani, in the Scutari region.
