Franc Miklošič's Main Contributions in Albanology

Summary/Abstract: Before evidencing Miklosic's main contributions in Albanology, I deem it necessary to point out that in his works he has dealt with more problems than their titles would suggest. Thus, for example, in his first Albanische Forschungen the principal object, the Slavic loanwords in Albanian, has been preceded by a rather long introduction, where Miklosic has expressed his opinion concerning the areas where Albanian was spoken, as well as a short summary of the Albanian phonology. The same tiling should be said also for his second and third Albanische Forschungen. Thus in the second Albanische Forschungen his exposé dealing with 920 loanwords of Latin and Italian origin is followed by some interesting observations on the phonology of the Romance elements of Albanian. In his third Albanische Forschungen, too, his analysis regarding the borrowed verbs of Albanian has been preceded by some considerations about the form of the loanwords in general.
