THE EVOLUTION OF MANAGEMENT: A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

Summary/Abstract: Management is a challenge requiring constant adaptation to new circumstances because globalization, technological change, the importance of knowledge and collaboration across organizational boundaries have make the current business landscape different from the past decades, it is pertinent to have an understanding of the origins of management thought. It is against this backdrop that this paper examines the evolution of management thought through the decades. This paper adopted quantitative research method through textual analysis and concludes that companies, like individuals, fail or succeed for a variety of reasons. Some of these reasons are circumstantial. Most are personal and human and include the decisions managers make and the actions they take.
