Summary/Abstract: Starting from the idea that the captive mind a socio mental alchemy with deceptive propagandistic ingredients is a "banal evil" in the spectacle society in which we all live this essay reviews some faces and symptoms of the captive mind in communism and after communism. The stake of the essay remains, however, deciphering the states and feelings hidden behind the faces and symptoms of the captive mind.
