Necessity and Significance of Thematic Tafsir in the Modern Age

Summary/Abstract: The paper consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction, the author gives basic remarks on the importance, need and necessity of thematic tafsir (al-tafsīr al-mawḍūʻī) in modern times, as presented by authors and authorities such as Maḥmūd Shaltūt, Aḥmad Sayyid al-Kūmī, Muḥammad Aḥmad al-Qāsī Muḥammad al-Ġazālī. The first chapter discusses the necessity of thematic tafsir today, where the views of two authors ʻAlī Ḥasan al-ʻArīḍ and ʻAbd al-Sattār Fatḥullāh Saʻīd are presented. The second chapter deals with the importance of thematic tafsir presented also through the views of two contemporary eminent authors: Muṣṭafa Muslim and Ṣalāḥ ʻAbd al-Fattāḥ al-Ḫālidī.
