Summary/Abstract: The focus of the research article is on the Soviet-era travelogues of Estonian clergy which are a unique source of cultural history of the period. In addition to thematic descriptions and commentary, an attempt has been made to identify image-type statements that reflect values and meanings. Do these highlight societal bottlenecks and analyse the impact of religious information, and will the comparisons reveal didactic and moral goals about the Church and religious life in the homeland? How do Protestant authors depict subjects in relation to other Churches and how do homeland Estonians depict expatriate Estonianness? The Sovietera travelogues of Estonian clergy paint a vivid picture of the experience of the polarised world during the Cold War.
