Summary/Abstract: Alexandru Ioan Cuza also anglicised as Alexander John Cuza was one of the most important rulers of Romanian Principalities. In that era, he was the only one who could carry out the union of the two Romanian Principalities, Moldavia and Wallachia, into one country and the reforms to strengthen it. Union has been the desire of our ancestors since ancient times. The reforms he implemented were like a crowning of the national consciousness and the will of the popular masses to be and know themselves within the same State. The ecclesiastical laws of Alexandru Ioan Cuza were very progressive for that time, being required by the changes in the life of the country. The law that stipulates that the Romanian language is mandatory in all churches of the country, care for seminars and for the material condition of the lay clergy, the establishment of the new Bishopric of the Lower Danube, the establishment of a central synodal authority and the "independence" of our Church from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the filling of vacant seats of the bishoprics by rotating their leaders, prove that Alexandru Ioan Cuza had the best feelings towards the Church and that he sincerely wanted its advancement.
